Why Do I Live So Fast So Furious all the time?

Why do I live so-fast-so-furious all the time?  Blame my patients.

I see my patients who have had a stroke at 35, bed bound, and/or unable to speak with their families at their bedside.  Usually, the family member is holding on to their beloved's hand, as if holding on to hope.

In every patient's room, you feel and hear the sentiments of friends and family members as you care for your patients:
You're my only child
Don't leave me
You're so young; you barely lived your life
What will happen to your young children
You had so much potential
I wish you had more time
I wish I spent more time with you
Please give her just two more years
We were supposed to travel together
We were supposed to.
How are we going to do this now?

My heart breaks when I hear any of these phrases.  I say a prayer for the patient and family member and I count my blessings.

What I hear and what I see in the intensive care unit affects the way I live my life. One of my biggest fears is not being able to see the world and do the things I want to do because of a health condition.

I see opportunities and potential in everyone and everything.

If I learn about a foreign land from a friend who just returned from a visit and am curious to know more, I research the country and start planning a trip.

If a job opportunity arises and I'd like to learn more, I reach out to those in charge and put myself on their radar.  The worst they can say is 'no' and I'll move on to other opportunities.

If I see a fun adventure or event that I may want to do one day, I usually hop on the opportunity because I don't know if I'll be able to do it later on.  If it's within reason, I usually take the chance.

If I see a lady struggling with her groceries, I'll stop to help her.  The same goes for a child visiting a family member in the hospital- I'll make a flying origami stork so that he or she is amused for the time spent visiting mom, dad, or grandparent.  It's the little things we do that have a tremendous impact.

Nothing in the world is difficult if you set your mind to it.

The only person that can limit you is yourself.

Why Not?
